I have read several literature about wisdom, how to find it and it’s benefits, I found the most important and useful information in the bible, in the book of proverbs.
Proverbs was written by Solomon, the son of David. In the chapters, he explains the benefits of wisdom, and this includes long life, riches, honour, safety – proverbs 3:16.
Proverbs 4:22 also explains that by gaining wisdom, we can live abundant and healthy lives: “For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (KJV). Wisdom of God also enables us to obtain favour from God – proverbs 8:35.
While reading, I sought for how to get the wisdom required to have all these benefits, because I long to live a fulfilled life, to be happy and make necessary and positive impact in life and I got an answer when I got to proverbs 9:10, here I learnt that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom!
Proverbs 9:10 (KJV): “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”.
This makes sense a lot to me, because with the sense and knowledge I have and have acquired so far, I know that I should honour God who I believe is the supreme creator of all things, I feel the whole universe is too intricately formed and well planned and arranged, to have happened by chance and put together carefully as it is, by a Big Bang theory.
And if I honour God the Almighty, I would want to obey His command, love Him, love my fellow beings which He created and seek to do good to them, this gives me a feeling of peace.
Also, I can trust Him to help me when in trouble, or when I don’t understand what is happening in me or around me, Proverbs 3:5 (KJV): “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding”. I get some peace and relief from this knowledge, I can go to sleep in peace, knowing that God is looking after me. I read in Proverbs 10:27 that the fear of the Lord gives long life, but the years of the wicked will be shortened, so I won’t worry about dying now.
If we get this type of wisdom, we will dispel mental health challenges and unnecessary worries, so that we can move forward in our life goals, to achieve successes, live our lives in full and seek to make positive impacts in our world.
