Hello, I’m back!
I have thought about the question above for a while and I feel it’s a question of possibility, we don’t really know if we can live our lives to the fullest, unless we try, and trying, is a step towards it becoming a reality.
It’s been a long while I’ve not posted on here, I’ve been into several commitments and engagement and have been working on these in between my regular day job. I’ll say that procrastination did set in a bit as well, I needed to put my thought together and make time to do so. Nevertheless, I’ve got this issue going in my mind, I feel the need to share, I hope it helps someone.
I find that the key elements to achieving a good state of wellness and well-being includes getting a good portion of the following:
• Health
• Wealth
• Education
• Security
• Social life
• Self care
• Spirituality
Living to our fullest
There may be more, but each of these aspects involves a lot of factors to make them complete, such as having a good health requires some effort on our part, we need to eat healthy. We can attain good health also, by having good and sufficient sleeps, regular exercises and striving to improve and achieve a positive mental state. To be in a state of well-being, according to online dictionary is “a good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity; welfare”. It covers a wide range of factors surrounding our bodies and lives. It is possible to be wealthy but not happy, happiness is a state of mind. Wikipedia defines happiness as having a positive and pleasant emotion, that comes from being content and having profound joy.
We can see that it’s not only the pursuit of wealth and attaining it, that brings happiness, contrary to what many may think. If you ask a person with terminal illness on their sick bed, what he/she wants most, I think the answer would not be money, as money cannot buy health.
This brings me to the very important topic I’m passionate about, in my mission – good health, above all I think we should prioritise our health or every other factor can be irrelevant. We need to take care of our mental state and spiritual state, for me, these two goes together. Because as a Christian, I have a strong belief in the word of God in the bible, His words encourages me and brings me right back on track when I’m feeling low or insecure. His word is full of wisdom, Knowledge and comfort, it says in proverbs 17:22 that “a merry heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones”. I learnt that one of the key factors to me being healthy, is to be happy, so I strive to be happy and make myself happy, by doing things that makes me happy.
Some people will say that having money can make you happy because you can afford to buy what makes you happy, like nice cars, house(s), the latest phone and all, yes I agree that having these things can bring some contentment, but these alone, can not make you happy or joyous continuously, for we are social beings, neither can they bring you to a state of being joyous, joy comes from within, realising who we are, our values, self esteem, surrounding ourselves with like minded and positive people, being healthy and contented, being creative and determined to achieve our goals and positive values and taking successful little steps to do this, helping others, taking reasonable self care and having fun, are some of the factors that can help us attain a state of – living our lives to the fullest.
